Thalhah bin Ubaidillah is the name that I don’t ever think to be my name. Actually that name is an advice from my father’s sheikh to be mandated as my name. All this time, I don’t know why it becomes my name even I don’t know its meaning. But It has been becoming a part of my life since I were born. But the thing that little bit I know about that name is its story. That name belongs to one Islamic hero. He is one of protector of Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H. He is brave solder but he has tender heart. He is the rich man but he is philanthropist. I am really impressed to him. Then I think that’s why my parents give me that name. I think they want me to be someone who has good manners.

Some people said that the name is what the parents expect towards their baby. So they give their baby name based on their expectation. Some parents give their baby name related to someone or something that they are impressed. And they give them meaningful name presenting their baby’s character later. Perceiving this case, actually there is no meaning inside my name. But it is very meaningful in my life. It becomes my personal identity. It will shape our personality. It becomes a symbol to know me.

Giving a name is not just up to the parent’s opinion because it must pay attention towards religion and culture. Forexample: moslem name can be taken from one of asma’ul husna and sundanese usually repeat the part of name like as rida sahrida. And it must have good meaning philologically. Perceiving this case, actually the name “Thalhah Ubaidillah” seems not good because there is no meaning inside. But it sounds great when I know who previous Thalhah is.
